# Auto-edit a recording

> Record your screen, narrate the edit as you work, and let Clipchat turn it into a finished video plus vertical shorts.

Clipchat records your screen, webcam, microphone and sound, along with
everything you click and type. It then turns that into finished video without
you opening an editor.

## Record

Anything you pause over is never recorded, and the recording is stitched back
together seamlessly when you stop.

Talk through the edit while you work. Saying that a take was bad, or that a
section should come out, is enough: Clipchat hears it and acts on it when it
plans the edit.

After you stop, Clipchat offers a short voice memo so you can describe the
video, set a title, or call out anything to remove. This is optional.

## What happens when you stop

1. **Transcribe.** Clipchat writes down everything you said.
2. **Watch.** It works out what is happening on screen, section by section.
3. **Plan.** The agent decides what to keep, what to cut and how to title it.
4. **Produce.** The finished videos are made on your computer.
5. **Publish.** Optional, see below.

If something goes wrong partway, you can run it again and Clipchat picks up
where it left off rather than starting over.

## What you get

A recording can produce as many videos as you want, each with its own shape:

* **16:9** widescreen, for YouTube
* **9:16** vertical, for Reels, Shorts and TikTok
* **1:1** square

By default you get a widescreen cut of the whole thing plus a few vertical
shorts, each covering one moment and titled accordingly. Ask for more, fewer,
or different shapes and Clipchat will produce those instead. Zooms follow what
you were actually doing, because Clipchat knows where you clicked.

## Settings that shape the edit

* **Backdrop.** The gradient or image behind your recording.
* **Brand.** A small logo shown on every frame.
* **Edit prompt.** Standing instructions applied to every recording, such as a
  house style for titles or a target length.
* **Auto pipeline.** On by default. Turn it off if you would rather review a
  recording before anything is made from it.

## Publish automatically

Choose a **publish workflow** in Settings and every finished video is sent to
that Runchat workflow along with its title, description and shape (`16:9`,
`9:16` or `1:1`). The shape is what lets one workflow route each video to the
right place, sending the widescreen cut to YouTube and the vertical ones to
your social accounts. Anywhere Runchat can reach is a valid destination, and
if one video fails to post the rest still go out.
